Ronny Lewis
Ashbrooks
May 2, 1947 — Jun 25, 2024
Memphis
Ronny Lewis Ashbrooks was born on May 2, 1947 to Homer and Alma Ashbrooks in Umpire, AR. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. As a young man he began helping his dad build homes and church buildings in Howard County, AR and Wenatchee, WA. Some of his fondest memories were of his beloved dog Tippy.
He graduated from Umpire High School in 1965 and was a 1969 graduate of Harding College. Shortly after graduation he moved to Memphis, TN and began working for Philip's Meat Company. He married Evelyn Ruth Landrum on November 21, 1969. After Philip's Meat Company closed its doors, he was employed at Federal Compress (a cotton warehousing Company) in Memphis and worked there for 20 years. While working for Federal Compress he learned the skill of repairing printers. He absolutely loved conversing and working with the public. After the company downsized Ronny began working for Home Depot. Many of the employees he worked with at Home Depot fondly referred to him as Mr. Ron. He loved helping customers with choosing paint, plants, flowers and renting tools.
Due to health issues, Ronny was forced to retire from Home Depot. He became active at the Lewis Senior Center. He loved taking care of their plants and flowers. When Covid 19 hit, the center closed down for a while. He then became active in getting to know the people in the neighborhood better. He was kind, caring and loving toward everyone he met. God called him home June 25, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, a half brother (Alvis Ashbrooks), a half sister (Louise Biggers) and a nephew (Roger Dewayne Ashbrooks).
He is survived by his wife of 54 years (Evelyn Ashbrooks), a daughter (Laura Ashbrooks), a half brother (Lewis Dewane Ashbrooks), 2 brothers (Roger Dale Ashbrooks and Anthony Gale Ashbrooks), and a number of nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed.
