Michael
Cole
Jul 18, 1953 — May 7, 2025
Memphis
Michael Cole, 71, passed away at Methodist University Hospital on May 7, 2025 after extended illness. Michael was born on July 18, 1953 to Jessie and James Cole III of Fayette County, TN.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Ernestine McCullough (Ronald): a brother Charles David Cole; and his
son and only child who died as a toddler while he was residing in Lompoc, CA.
Michael is survived by six siblings: Gloria Wilhite, Dorris Lewis, Herbert Cole "his ride or die" (Nadebra) Nathaniel Cole, Howard Cole and James Cole IV (Bernice); thirteen nieces and nephews as well as cousins and friends.
Upon returning to Memphis Michael was employed by Babcock Galleries before he returned to the roofing business along with his brothers. Michael grew up in the Douglass Community and later grew to love Hyde Park Community where he made many lifelong friends. Michael was no nonsense, free spirited, adventurous, loyal, and gregarious. He often wrote personal reflections of his relationship with God. Michael often sang the Sam Cooke version of "A Change is Gonna Come" at Memorials, family gatherings and for himself as he struggled with life's issues. Michael enjoyed time spent with his nieces and nephews and was revered by his nieces as a "chivalric gentleman". Prone to offer random acts of kindness and a loner of sorts Michael abhorred violence and was often a devoted caretaker to friends in need.
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 P.M on May 23,2025 at High Point Chapel 3788 Summer Ave, Memphis, TN 38122.
