Obituary

Mary Loyce Riem, 90, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on February 1, 2020. Mary Loyce was born to the late Walter and Theo Gitter on November 26, 1929, in Cockrum, Mississippi, where she lived the majority of her life. She met and married the love of her life, the late William "Bill" A. Riem, Jr., and they enjoyed 56 years together. She was a retired Telephone Operator from AT&T, where she worked nights, so she could be home for her children during the day. She was an avid gardener, whose greatest joy was to give the fruits of her labor, to family and friends. She loved to quilt, and would take great pride in her work. She loved her church, she loved to be in attendance when her health allowed. She was known for her cooking, sweet pickles and chicken salad. She leaves to cherish her memories, David Riem, Barry (Elizabeth) Riem, Susan (David) Pace, and Sharon Penna; 10 grandchildren, Christy, Dave, Jennifer, Renee, Amanda, James, John, Scott, Michael, and Adam; three great grandchildren, Ethan, McKinley and Grace; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mary Loyce was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 6 until funeral service begins at 12 noon at New Prospect Baptist Church, 310 Hwy 305 N, Olive Branch, Mississippi. Interment will be in Forest Hill East Cemetery.
