Obituary

Mary Ethel (Methel) Jacobs, 78, met her Jesus face to face and was reunited with her husband Fred and multiple family members early January 5, 2022. Methel was born November 21, 1943 in Memphis, TN. to Freeman and Mildred (Stone) Brown. She graduated from Southside High School then attended Evangel College where she earned a degree in English. She married Fred Jacobs in 1966 and their son Chris was born in 1968. The family moved to Santa Cruz, CA in 1969 so Fred could attend Bethany Bible College. Methel taught at a Christian school there before they moved back to Memphis so she could become the Children's Director at First Assembly of God church. While the Children's Director, Methel staffed nurseries and Sunday School classes with Godly women and men, oversaw Kid's Camps and VBS's, and worked on the Missions Convention held each year in October. Along with Missions, her passion was pointing children to Jesus and inspiring others to do the same. After almost 19+ years, she retired from 1st AG, then obtained her Master's degree in Counseling and Education and counseled for several years.

Methel enjoyed reading, spending quality time with friends and family and listening to Hillsong worship songs.

Methel is survived by her son, Christopher Stone Jacobs of Memphis, TN, her granddaughters, Jennifer Hope and Ashley Nicole Jacobs, great-grandchildren Allen Thomas (AJ), Hope Grace, Faith, and Bryson, her sisters Lorena Conrad, Marie (Obie) Harrup, and Dawn (Randy) Moody, and multiple nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Methel was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Thomas Jacobs, parents Freeman and Mildred Brown, and brother Finley Brown. A graveside service will be held at noon Saturday, January 29 at Memorial Park, 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38119.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Salvation Army, Memphis Chapter. Condolences may be left on Methel's online guest book at High Point Funeral and Cremation (highpointchapel.com).
