Obituary

Our heavenly angels have a new "Little General" among them. Mary Launa Jones Gray of Clarksdale, Mississippi received her crown of glory on Tuesday, January 22,
2019. Mimi lived life on earth with Mississippi gumbo mud coursing through her veins, touched off with a bit of the River flowing through them - a true child of the Delta.
She loved her family, oh especially those grandchildren of hers. Slipping them a "Jackson" or a "Benji" to buy what their parents had just told them they couldn't was
one of Honey's all time favorite mischievous acts. With her love and strength from the Lord, she WAS invincible. "Mrs. Gray" taught her high school students math with a passion. She never left an elevator without knowing every other occupant's life story, becoming best friends having just rode two floors. She gave her all to anyone who asked, and one thing that was for certain was her willingness to offer an adventurous and friendly wager, ready to pay up when wrong (however rare that might have been!). She once approached an Ole Miss football offensive coordinator at a Rebel basketball game to inquire why her favorite team seemingly refused to run a certain short yardage play. His response was "Its not in my playbook". After several convincing and passionate minutes telling him it should be, wouldn't you know the next fall, during the first game of the season, the first offensive series, her suggested play was run successfully by them. "Mimi Right" is not an urban legend, it is true Mimi Jones displaying that invincibility, loving her Rebels, loving football in the south, and winning the friendliest of arguments. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, she is walking around heaven barefoot, strolling the gardens with her mother, riding horses with her father, playing jokes with her sister, running from her brother, and drinking a Coke-a-Cola with Jesus. She has
finally found the only accommodations better than consuming a cocktail in The Sazarc before resting her head at The Roosevelt - Heaven. Her soul is finally at peace, and her spirit is eternally joyful. Mom's heart's desire was to have friends and family gather graveside at Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis for a sunset service celebrating her life with a toast of champagne. That is just what we will do at 4:30 pm on Friday, January 25th. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Baptist Reynolds Hospice House, 1520 West Poplar, Memphis, Tennessee 38017.
