Louise Butler Schmittou, 88, of Southaven, Mississippi, passed from this life on February 05, 2018. She was born October 7, 1929 to Louie R. and Ethel T. Butler. Louise was a lifelong Memphian. She graduated from Whitehaven High School and The University of Memphis receiving both her Bachelors and Master's degree of Education. She retired after 23 years of teaching from Memphis Harding Academy where she was "Teacher of the Year" in 1977 and 1983. She was a faithful member of Whitehaven Church of Christ, now Goodman Oaks Church of Christ where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She served as the church librarian, until her health made it impossible for her to serve under this ministry. She had a great love for the Goodman Oaks libraries, that now bears her name. Her interests in life included her love for God's creation, reading, and singing. Ms. Louise, as she was known by many, had a deep love love of children, flower gardening, and animals. She was always finding, strays, and injured animals, and would diligently nurse them back to health, including everything from, squirrels, gerbils, fish, cats, and dogs - anything that needed her. Even her vet gave her special prices for all the creatures she helped. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louie R. and Ethel T. Butler, one sister Dorothy Haber, and her husband and high school sweetheart of 69 years, Gordon Schmittou. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Schmittou (Jeremy Powell) of Southaven, MS, her son Robert Schmittou (Lisa) of Searcy, Arkansas. Eight Grandchildren, Shelby, and Tyler Schmittou of Searcy, AR. Jennifer Bethenod, Jessica, Katy, Zachery, McKenzie, and Nicholas Gray, of Atlanta, Georgia, and one Great granddaughter, Kaydence Carpenter.
