Obituary

Leonidas Constandinos Koulogianes was born September 5, 1950 at Kessler Air Force Base, BIloxi, Mississippi to Sgt. Gust Koulogianes and Lois M. Koulogianes. Leo was taken from this life prematurely when struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on February 9, 2022.
Preceding his in death were his father Gust Koulogianes; stepfather, Joseph Cataldo; mother, Lois Cataldo; and youngest brother, Paul Cataldo. Surviving Leo are his loving wife of three years, Jan Koulogianes; his older brother, Dean Koulogianes of Lakeland, Florida; and his younger brother Stephen Koulogianes of Memphis, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leo lead an exemplary life from childhood, excelling in every endeavor he pursued. He graduated from Leto High School in Tampa, Florida with honors, enlisted in the Marine Corps and served as an air traffic controller before his honorable discharge with the rank of Sergeant.
Leo studied music at the University of South Florida before leaving Tampa and settling in Memphis where he worked for his uncle, Clyde Gridley. Intertwined in a career as a self-employed locksmith, Leo was active in fishing, soccer, softball, cycling and ballroom dancing, which led him to his future wife, Jan, and happiness as her husband. He enjoyed meeting friends for coffee and donuts each week and rock hunting. Leo and Jan scoured Nonconnah Creek and surrounding areas, finding agates, geodes and petrified wood.
Leo's character traits were exhibited in his generosity, faithfulness, love of family and friends, and devotion to the study of God's word.
Memberships included USA Dance, Jackson Ballroom, Blues City Swing, and Memphis Archaeological and Geological Society.
Leo and Jan were members of DeSoto Hills Baptist Church where they worshipped and attended Bible study.
This glimpse of Leo is only a shadow of the true man that now trods the streets of Heaven, far richer for his presence as he stand face-to-face with Jesus. Even death could not quench his generosity, as he donated his organs to help save others.
Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022 at noon at DeSoto Hills Baptist Church, 4680 Getwell Road, Southaven, Mississippi, with services to follow at 2 p.m. The family requests that memorials be sent in Leo's memory to Children of the World ( www.childrenoftheworld.com/give ).
