Obituary

Kevin Shea Grauer, 55, of Memphis, TN, left us on Saturday, February 18, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Chloe Grauer-Lea, and brother, Beau Grauer. He is survived by his wife, Liz Pillow-Grauer, son Ian Grauer, stepdaughters Reese and Parker McLean, beloved dogs Apollo and Wiggles, his parents Gail and Kevin Grauer, siblings Paige, brother-in-law Ty Taylor, and Sean, sister-in-law Elaina Grauer, his nieces Demi and Sophia Grauer and his nephews Kade Taylor, Ayden, Cannon, and Eli Grauer and their mother, Wendy Grauer.

Shea was the second born, first of the three infamous Grauer brothers, the self-proclaimed favorite and while our parents survived their teen years the city of Memphis would never be the same. The brothers were best friends, they shared family loyalty, experiences, and friends, and they would never let the other do something stupid…alone.

Some of Shea ' s favorite things, were Little Debbie snack cakes, our mother ' s stuffed cabbage, a cold Budweiser followed by a shot of Stoli with a twist of orange, he loved the history channel, the thrill and spectacle of shooting fireworks, fishing at Fat Possum Hollow, was a skilled marksman, loved the idea of restoring old cars and he idolized Dolly Parton.

Shea was a son, brother, uncle, a friend; he was a devoted husband and loving father. He was so much more; he was an exceptional human. He was an advocate for his beloved daughter Chloe and lobbied the TN legislature for access to medical cannabis oil with our mother and US Senator, Steve Cohen.  Shea advocated with passion and a father ' s love to legalize CBD in 2014 to help relieve Chloe ' s seizures but she died just before access was granted.

Shea was a protector, a provider, and a source of strength for his family and friends. His loyalty was unwavering and he showed love through his actions. He was so proud of his son, Ian, and stepdaughters Reese and Parker. Liz was the love of his life and he knew he met his match when he married her. They loved each other completely, her love made him a better, stronger, softer version of himself. Though life had tested his resolve he never buckled under the pressure.  For Shea there was almost no daylight between blood and friendship, he loved with his whole heart until his last breath.

Professionally he began his career in the hospitality industry at various restaurants around the city that included Midway Cafe, Side Street, and Old Zinnie's, with the most significant span of eighteen years at The Beauty Shop in the heart of the Cooper-Young entertainment district as a bar and catering manager. He was personable, and attentive and never had a stranger at his bar. He was playful, clever with a great sense of humor, and loved to make people laugh with his puns and bad dad jokes. However, he often got caught up in his own thoughts, took too long in the set-up, and would forget the punch line before delivering it.

Shea knew that being scared and comfortable was easier than being courageous and in 2017 he bet on himself, took a chance, and began working in production at the Orpheum Theater for the Local 69 union team building sets and running electrical.  He was promoted to the video assist utility team as an operator and then as a video playback specialist. His film projects included, Young Rock Season 3, Lisa Frankenstein, No One Will Save You, Heart of a Lion, Five Days at Memorial, Secrets of Sulphur Springs, Black Bird, Bluff City Law, Big George Foreman, and Disney - Zombies 3.

As we plan to honor the life of our beloved Shea our family has been forced to relive the loss of Beau. Some people are just good people, and even though they are both gone their spark lives on through each of us. We may feel lost in this moment but we must allow our sorrow to be, knowing that it will pass, it truly is the only thing to do. We can take comfort in knowing our brothers are reunited and while our souls remain connected we must let Shea go for now, we must remember all the good times we shared, and all the memories that we made. He will never be forgotten and his legacy will live on forever.
