Obituary

On Monday, May 24, 2021,

Jonathan Gravois, loving husband and father of two children and one grandson, passed away at the age of 60.

Jon was born on July 15, 1960 in New Orleans, LA to Earl Louis Sr. and Ina Mae Gravois. He received his B.S. degree in English and Philosophy from Saint Joseph Abbey and Seminary College. He taught high school English and coached basketball, volleyball, baseball and assisted with football at Crescent City Baptist School in Metairie, LA. Jon coached volleyball at Tulane University in New Orleans and at Rhodes College in Memphis, TN. He was working as an application developer at Universal Asset Management in Memphis at the time of his death.

On July 9, 1989, he married Myrtis Penton. They raised two children, Josh and Jeni Gravois. They have a grandson, Forrest Gravois.

Jon loved the Lord and used his musical talent for Him by being involved in music most of his life. He had a beautiful tenor voice and was a wedding singer and a member of the church choir. He was also involved in drama and was a Boy Scout leader when he was younger. Jon had a passion for sports and coaching. He was more than a coach and had a positive impact on many people's lives. Jon was a die hard Saints fan. He had a dry sense of humor and quick wit and a spirit of giving. He is rejoicing in his Savior's presence!

Jon was preceded in death by his father, Earl, his mother, Ina and his nephew, August Berthelot. He is survived by his wife Myrtis, his two children, Josh and Jeni, his grandson, Forrest, his brother Earl Jr., his sister Deborah Berthelot and his nephews, Patrick Berthelot, and Robert and Jeff Gravois.
