Obituary

Mr. Joe F Sistare of Memphis Tn, went home to be with the Lord, on April 16, 2026, at the home of his sister in Indian Trail, NC. He slipped quietly into his Savior's arms surrounded by his loving family.

Joe was born in Charlotte, NC,  on July 24, 1949, the son of Carl Frank and Bill Whitaker Sistare. He grew up and attended school in this area. After completing high school, he chose to join the Navy. After his basic training he was stationed at the naval base in Millington Tn just outside of Memphis. While serving there he met his beautiful wife Hazel, and made their home in Memphis, then later moved to Bartlett Tn, a suburb in the area. He then started a second career as a funeral director serving families for over 20 years.

They both were active in church, members of a bowling league, and his most favorite thing of all was singing for the Lord. He formed a quartet with some friends and they sang together all around the area, traveling some times, singing in churches, and many concerts, for more than twenty years. It was his passion, and his loving wife was always by his side.

Hazel passed away in 2023, and later that year Joe became sick. He stayed on in Memphis until October of 2025, deciding to return to North Carolina to be near all of his family. He will be greatly missed in our family, but we know he is in his eternal home.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife of more than fifty years, both his parents, Frank and Bill, three brothers, Buck Sistare, John Henry Sistare, and Bobby Sistare, from Lancaster SC; four sisters, Louise Hyatt, Edgemore SC, Sara Roscoe, Huntersville NC, Mary Efird, Locust, NC, and Carolyn (Teeny), Valdez, Rock Hill SC.

Joe is survived by his brother, Billy Sistare, Monroe, NC, two sisters: Elizabeth Ligon, Waxhaw, NC, Debra Helms, Indian Trail NC, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 19th, 5:00 PM at Field of Grace Baptist Church, located at 902 South Rocky River Rd Monroe, NC.

A visitation will be held Friday, May 1, 2026 at 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at High Point Funeral Home 3788 Summer Avenue, Memphis, TN 38122. Joe will be laid to rest with his loving wife in Tiplersville, MS on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 11:00 am. Memorials may be sent to Atrium Hospice of Union County in Monroe, NC or the charity of your choice.
