Obituary

Jerry Lamar Taylor, affectionately known as "Geegee," passed away on Thursday, August 29th, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and dedication to family. Born on April 29th, 1941, on a dairy farm in Sturgis, Mississippi, Jerry was one of eight siblings. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Jeanette (Meme) Taylor, their son Chip (and Laura) Taylor, daughter Kim (and Jeff) White, and a large, loving family that includes nine grandchildren (Casey, Kirby, Amber, Taylor, Carson, Ashton, Jake, Grey, and Jenna Beth) and ten great-grandchildren who lovingly called him "Geegee." He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Margret Taylor, brother Bill Taylor and infant son.

Jerry graduated from Sturgis High School in 1959. When asked the question, "What brought you to Memphis?" He would reply, "Well, I was riding my mule, tracking a rabbit in the snow. The snow melted, I wandered into Memphis. Traded my mule for a pipe wrench and I've been hanging on it ever since." In reality, he rode a Greyhound bus to Memphis to join his oldest brother Bill, who was playing football at Memphis State. Bill got him a job with American Plumbing Company. He joined Plumbers Local 17 and this marked the beginning of his remarkable 64 years in the plumbing industry. In 1974, he founded Plumbing Contractors, Inc. PCI, a business that became a cornerstone in the commercial and industrial plumbing community. His men were considered family.

Jerry and Jeanette were devoted members of Collierville First Baptist Church. In his free time, Jerry cherished being surrounded by his family, particularly enjoying spoiling his wife (Meme) , grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He took great pride in watching them play sports, perform in dance recitals and plays and being a big part of their significant life events such as weddings and graduations. He was often quoted as saying, after his grandkids excelled in sports or school, "You know, they get that from their grandparents—it always skips a generation."

Jerry was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and was often accompanied by his son and grandsons. His passion for nature extended to his commitment to conservation, being a lifetime member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Ducks Unlimited. He was a charter member of the Big D Hunting Club, enjoying many trips out west to hunt mule deer and elk. He spent many weekends fishing, hunting, and telling tall tales at the Arkansas "Hilton" on Green Lake in Holly Grove, Arkansas.

Jerry Lamar "Geegee" Taylor's life was a testament to his love for his wife and family, his work, and the great outdoors. His legacy will live on in the memories of those who knew and loved him.
