H.W. Hanks, 97, of Memphis, Tennessee was born in Atoka, Tennessee on May 14, 1922 to Henry and Ruth Bell Wilson Hanks. He passed away on Monday, May 20, 2019 at his home. Mr. Hanks is finally reunited with his wife, Ruby. He proudly served during WWIIin the Army in the 103rd Infantry Division in the European Theater and received a purple heart. Mr. Hanks was a member of the Moose Lodge and retired from Firestone. He truly enjoyed being retired and was an avid baseball fan. Mr. Hanks was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruby Neal Jackson Hanks; his parents, three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by two daughters, Linda Hannah (Bill), Beverly Burrow; sister, Alene Maness; three grandchildren, Kim, Butch, Jeff; five great grandchildren, Alexandra, Eric, Araye, Angela, Austin; and two great great grandchildren, Elliott, and Abigail. Visitation will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23 until service begins at 12 noon at High Point Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Arlington Cemetery in Arlington, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
