Gregory "Greg" P. Candebat
CORDOVA, TN – If you ever met him, you would remember him. Gregory Paul Candebat was born in New Orleans on November 7 th , 1958. He spent nearly his entire life in Memphis, having attended Bishop Byrne High School, and graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Memphis State University. He would go on to work in insurance, officiate TSSAA basketball and TSSA soccer, deliver as a courier, and eventually become a business owner. Regrettably, he passed from heart complications at his home in Cordova on July 12 th , 2021.
He is survived by his mother, Inez Candebat, née Landry; his children, Joseph Marascal, Dominic Candebat, and Eliana Candebat; four siblings, Mike Candebat III (Debbie), Jeff Candebat, Brent Candebat (Brenda), and Cindy Birdsey (Don); and nieces and nephews, Brosnan, Melissa, Ben, Connie, Drew, Michael, Devereaux, and Thomas.
His tales were often tall, such as being able to swim across the Mississippi River, outrun an airplane, or lift impossible amounts of weights. He was a jokester and able to entertain just about anyone. He was also a giver, a man who personified "giving the shirt off his back"; he was never a stranger to anyone. He made sure to spend quality time with his family, god-children, and friends alike. He was also a man of Catholic faith. He is remembered for his sense of humor, the importance he placed on family, and his love of a good glass of wine.
A visitation will be held Sunday, July 18 th , from 5-7 PM at St. Therese-Little Flower in Memphis – Mass will be held Monday, July 19 th , at 10:30 AM at St. Therese-Little Flower, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery. Flowers and donations may be sent to the church.
He leaves a legacy of humor, love, giving, and much more. His stories will be passed on for generations. We are sure he is watching an LSU replay with his best friend and father, Mike Jr., who passed in 2020. Uncle Greg, we celebrate the great impact you had on everyone. You will always be LSU's #1 fan.
