Obituary

Charlotte Elizabeth, 74, passed away peacefully at home on March 5, 2026. She retired from FedEx, a career which opened a world of travel and adventure. A woman of boundless curiosity and an open heart, Charlotte lived a life that crossed continents, cultures, and centuries.

Growing up on a farm engendered a passion for animals, particularly cats and horses.

As a teenager, her love of language and learning took her to Dijon, France, where she deepened a fluency in French that would become the first of at least three languages including Spanish, Italian and Arabic. She later returned to France to teach in Marseille, forging lifelong friendships with those who shared her thirst for knowledge and travel.

At home, Charlotte recreated the world she had experienced abroad. She was known for hosting lively dinner parties and potlucks, drawing together guests from a remarkable range of backgrounds and cultures. Her table was a place of conversation, music, connection, and culinary art.

Her sense of adventure carried her across the American landscape as well. Whether exploring stateside or venturing further afield, Charlotte sought out new places and experiences with the same enthusiasm she brought to everything she undertook. In her later years, she turned her restless intellect toward teaching ESL (English as a second language) and expanding her horizons with the study of ancient civilizations and societies, tracing the threads of human history through the ages.

She lived a life that crossed continents, cultures, and centuries. Above all, she was an avid lifelong reader who found in books the same breadth of world that she sought in life.

Charlotte is preceded in death by her loving parents, Charles Edward Pool, Sr., and Juanita Lattier Pool, and siblings John Henry Pool, III, and Clare Annetta Pool Gibson. She is survived by sisters Denise Marie Pool Key (Joe), Camille Angela Pool Owens (Tom), Jeanne Michelle Pool Nickelson (Keith), Sara Rachel Pool, and Martha Renee Pool, and brothers Charles Edward Pool, Jr., (Kirsten), Joseph Phillip Pool, and David Louis Pool. She leaves a niece Camille Pool Blocker (Paxton), and nephews Brett Edward Stidham, Joseph Henry Pool, Brandon Lee Stidham, Brian William Pool, and Gabriel Aaron Pool.
