Catherine Leigh
Lyon
May 17, 1956 — Jan 28, 2023
Collierville
Cathy left this earth on January 28, 2023, after a brave fight with cancer surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her brother Chip Reynolds, and grandparents Fred & Naomi Simmons and Jim & Irene Reynolds, of Brinkley, AR. She leaves behind her parents Jim & Sally Reynolds, her son and daughter-in-law Brent & Lisa Lyon, and grandchildren Allie and Jake Lyon, all of Collierville. She also leaves her sister and brother-in-law, Cindy & Randy Ford of Collierville, niece Hillary Martin of Palo Alto, CA and nephew Eric Martin of Los Angeles, CA.
Cathy was born in Brinkley, AR on May 17, 1956 and moved to Memphis with her family when she was in grade school. She graduated from Overton High School, excelling in flute and piccolo in the marching and concert bands, and continuing her education at then Memphis State University as a music major and member of the Mighty Sound of the South marching band, basketball Pep Band and orchestra. She was also a member of the Memphis Youth Symphony Orchestra. A true Tiger fan, Cathy tailgated for 35+ years with a great group of friends. She worked for Heavy Machines, Inc., for 38 years where she made lasting friendships.
Cathy loved vacations at the beach with family and friends who became family. They were a yearly highlight with tropical cruises added in more recent years. She volunteered for six years on the Memphis Youth Hockey League board in charge of registration when Brent played ice hockey. About 10 years ago Cathy became an avid cyclist, logging thousands of miles and even completing a century ride! She was a Memphis Hightailers Bicycle Club board member, ride leader and volunteer. She was a passionate advocate for cycling, providing encouragement to new riders and ensuring they were familiar with the rules of the road. She always said that it didn't matter how fast you were, but that you rode safely and had fun.
We love and miss our daughter, mother, Mimi, sister and aunt. Jesus has wrapped her in his loving arms, and she's being welcomed by her family and friends who arrived before her, greeting them with her beautiful smile. And then it's off to organize that bike ride and dance with the angels!
Visitation will be held at Collierville United Methodist Church, 454 W. Poplar Avenue, Collierville,TN beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, followed by a memorial service at 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Collierville United Methodist Church Youth Group or Memphis Hightailers Bicycle Club.
