Bettye Schaeffer Carasso, 87, loving mother and devoted grandmother, transitioned into heaven on June 19th, 2023. Bettye was born on April 21st, 1936 in Capleville, TN where she was raised with her 7 siblings. After graduating from Whitehaven High School, she joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Cheyenne, WY where she met her husband, Jack Carasso of New York, NY. After having their first child in Alexandria, VA, they moved to Memphis, TN, where they raised their family. Later, Bettye and Jack moved to Olive Branch, MS where they were members of Capleville United Methodist Church. Bettye treasured her family, faith, garden, birds and the many pets throughout her life. Her cat Toby and her dachshund Harley were the two pets with her until the end. Bettye was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Carasso; her parents, Joseph Henry Schaeffer and Mattie Sue Randolph; her brothers Joseph Schaeffer, Gene Schaeffer, and Duke Schaeffer; and her sisters, Dorothy Vawter, Martha Sue Coleman and Kittye Louise McNeille. She is survived by her son Tony Carasso (Debbie) of Farragut, TN; her two daughters Lisa Pittman (Robert) of Lakeland, TN and Betsy Szulewski (Rich) of Memphis, TN; her grandchildren Matthew (Shannon) of Arlington, TN, Blake and Jack Carasso of Farragut, TN, Jacob and Allison Szulewski of Memphis, TN; great-grandchildren Liam Pittman, Ashton Looney, Kyler Looney; her brother, Milton Schaeffer of Germantown, TN; and a host of nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday June 24th at Schaeffer Memorial Chapel (7887 Poplar Ave, Germantown, TN) with a service at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at a later date at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Donations may be made to The Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County in memory of Bettye Carasso.
