Lester J. "Jim" Fay, Jr., died February 5, 2014, at home after a lengthy illness. He was 85 years old. Born in San Francisco to Catherine and Lester Fahy, Jim grew up in southern California. His wife of 59 years, Musette, survives him as do his children Marilyn Powell, Michael (and Vicki) Fahy, Stephen (and Debbie) Fahy, daughter-in-law, Mary Fahy, step-grandson Jason Sidle, granddaughters Heather and Alexa Fahy and great-grandson, Mason. His son, Patrick, predeceased him.
Jim retired from the Marine Corps and Federal Express. Both careers revolved around aircraft, which he loved. In 1952 Jim began his first tour as a Marine in South Korea and served until 1976 following two tours in Vietnam as a Flight Engineer aboard C-130s. Serving his country was a privilege. His second career with FedEx also required world-wide travel and afforded him the opportunity to continue teaching aircraft engine maintenance.
Jim held degrees from El Camino Junior College in California, a B.S. from Memphis State and a Master of Science from UT.
His funeral will be on Monday, February 10, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Germantown, TN. Visitation in the church begins at 9:30 a.m. with the Mass at 11 a.m. A reception will follow the service.
